Over Sized Trash Containers
Canton's
collection
guidelines state that all refuse and yard waste containers must be 32
gallons or less and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
Although not strictly enforced
in the past, Canton has now enforced these guidelines in order to combat
rising insurance costs, thus saving money during these economically
challenging times. Guideline enforcement also helps to protect Canton
Waste Recycling employees from injury. Residents should keep in mind that their
oversized containers may still be of use around the home. However, for
those wishing to recycle their oversized containers, CWR will accept
plastic containers for recycling, as long as they are marked as a
plastic #1‑7. This information can generally be found on the
bottom of the container inside the recycling triangle. If #1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6 or 7 appears inside the triangle, remove the handles and the wheels
from the container as the plastic and metals that make up these parts
cannot be recycled. Once
removed, place the can upside down next to your recycling at the curb
and mark it with a sign that says "please recycle."
Only, empty containers marked as
a plastic #1-7 with the wheels and handles removed and turned upside
down will be accepted for recycling. All others will be left at the
curb.
